Herne Bay Harriers 6 Ramsgate Youth Reserves 2

Having disposed of Ramsgate Youth Colts the previous week, Harriers found the reserve side a far more challenging proposition. Playing with the wind Harriers anticipated dominating the play but Ramsgate acquitted themselves well.

Harrier broke the deadlock when Inglis lifted the ball over the oncoming defenders and Tamplin was able to run on to the ball and lift it over the onrushing keeper. Harriers enjoyed the lead for only a short period and Ramsgate equalised after exposing defensive frailties. Shortly before the interval, Van Orsouw released Love who was able to outrun the chasing defenders and place his shot in to the corner leaving the keeper with no chance.

After the interval Harriers defended resolutely as Ramsgate increased the pressure. However, Harriers were incisive on the counter attack and Harding played the ball in to the centre where Inglis finished from close range. Shortly afterwards Tamplin repeated his feat of the first half when he was able to lob the advancing keeper. At 4-1 Harriers took their foot off the peddle and allowed Ramsgate to breach their defences once more. Learning from this lesson they were able to break out and after a number of neat passes, the ball was with Harding who hit a rasping drive from the edge of the penalty box to restore Harriers three goal advantage. Dispirited by the score, Ramsgate allowed Harriers to finish strongly and Tamplin seized the opportunity to complete his hat-trick before the final whistle.
