Herne Bay Harriers 6 Monkton Youth 2
On a good pitch Monkton started the strongest and in the first 5 mins Harriers defence had to work hard to keep the front runners from getting a shot on target, after this initial flurry harriers settled down and started moving the ball around and in the 19 minute C. Lilley popped up to finish a well worked move with an unstoppable shot.
Harriers continued the pressure and captain S. Busby had the ball in the net only for the linesman to harshly judge that he had fouled the defender and the goal was disallowed.
Monkton took faith from this and soon equalised, the 2nd half started with Harriers the stronger side and M. Radley soon had the ball in the net for Harriers second.
Monkton did not crumble and good defending from man of the match G. Russell and strong goalkeeping from A. Busby kept them at bay.
Harriers made breaks from midfield and H. Smith was rewarded with his first goal of the game and harriers were 3-1 up, from the resulting kick off the Monkton winger took the ball down the right and scored from a solo run.
Harriers had to change the formation when defender J. Moore came off after a shocking lunge of a tackle injured his leg, A. Elliott came on up front and after just a few minutes he lobbed the keeper to bring the score to 4-2.
Monkton seemed to run out of steam and the fast moving C. Lilley scored his second when he went one on one with the Monkton Keeper.
Captain S. Busby had to retire due to a wrist
injury as the game drew to a close with just enough time for H. Smith to nip
in and score his second and bring the score to well deserved 6-2 win.
