Dover Athletic Colts 3 Herne Bay Harriers 1

Harriers travelled to Dover to play on a sloping pitch in a howling wind.

The visitors chose to play against the elements in the first half hoping for a significant advantage in the second period as players tired.

The early exchanges suggested Harriers made the right choice but they were eventually undone after fifteen minutes.

Approaching the half mark B. Tamplin floated in a free kick and as the keeper came to gather J. Blackwell ran across his path and flicked the ball home with a deft header.

As the half looked like it would peter out all square Harriers were caught cold and conceded two goals in as many minutes.

After the restart Harriers started to dominate the game but this was not to be their day.

The normally reliable D. Lewis saw four good chances miss the target and Tamplin was denied by the woodwork on two occasions.

Dover rode their luck and held out.
