Herne Bay Harriers 4 Thanet Colts 6

In glorious late summer weather Harriers entertained a strong side from Thanet Colts.

In the first few moments D. Lewis caught the visitors cold and set up B. Tamplin who made no mistake.

After quarter of an hour a sweeping move saw H. Evans cut the ball back from the left wing for D. van Orsouw to stroke in and double the advantage.

Harriers looked capable of causing an upset and played with confidence.

Unfortunately, the Thanet side never gave up their own conviction and pulled a goal back on the half hour.

Two minutes later they were all square and Harriers did well to hold on to the break.

From the restart, Thanet got their noses in front for the first time.

Fifteen minutes from time their lead was extended by their fourth goal and, similar to the first half, Harriers allowed the visitors to score a second inside a minute.

At five two Harriers should have been dead and buried but J. Blackwell produced a goal from nowhere and his dogged resistance proved infectious and when he scored his second with a bullet header from a T. Inglis cross shot Thanet were grateful the clock was on their side.

Harriers pressed hard to square the match and finally succumbed to the sucker punch and Thanet Colts were able to relax in the final reckoning.
