Herne Bay Harriers 4 Canterbury Youth 2
The open exchanges were even with very few opportunities.
As the first half progressed Canterbury had the greater of the possession, but we had the clearer chances and better finishing would have seen us open the scoring.
However we failed to take these opportunities and a mistake late on allowed Canterbury to go in at half-time 1 - 0 up.
The boys came out determined to rectify the score line and within 5 minutes we were 2 - 1 up, thanks to T. Barton.
We were creating chances on a regular basis and soon 2 - 1 became 3 - 1, and then 4 - 1.
It should have been 5 - 1, but somehow we failed to score with the ball on the goal line as our two forwards could not decide who was going to kick the ball in the net, allowing their defender to rescue the situation.
To their credit Canterbury continued pressing forward and were rewarded with a second goal from a corner, where we were slow to react in the box.
In fairness, the team played very well and with slightly better finishing could have ended up more comfortable winners.
It is important that we now start converting a higher proportion of the chances created, as this may soon cost us in a close match.
The win saw us replace Canterbury in 3rd and our sights are now set on catching the top two!!
