Herne Bay Harriers 7 Dover Rangers 3
We started brightly, and although we played some good football we didn't really threaten Dover's goal.
Dover opened the scoring inside 10 minutes and were playing well enough for an upset to be on the cards.
We quickly equalised but two poor errors saw Dover go 2-1 ahead.
We still tried to play our football and gradually got on top creating several half chances.
Finally our persistence paid off and we again equalised, adding a further two goals before half-time as a result of good finishing by T. Barton.
However, 4-2 at half-time could have been 4-3 as Dover had a succession of six corners and were unlucky not to score.
The second half saw us quickly gain the advantage and we added to our score at regular intervals, missing numerous good chances in between.
Dover grabbed a late goal back from a well worked corner, but with T. Barton completing a double hat-trick the final score was 7-3.
The positives were we played some really attractive football, but still of greater concern is the number of goals we are conceding due to poor team defending.
With the away fixture of this match next week, we need to put this right, as after that game we pit our wits against the top two, and whilst we are capable of scoring goals, poor defending will make the task of getting a good result that much harder.
