Herne Bay Harriers Under 9s Colts yet again got off to another good start against Stars and Stripes, with J. Mercer scoring 2 goals within eight minutes.
A sidefoot placement which beat the goalkeeper to his right hand side and a cheeky lob which left the goalkeeper in no mans land.
This was all set up by some outstanding one and two touch
football, then in the twelfth minute J.Mercer placed a superb side foot volley
from the penalty spot after a beautifully flighted cross from a corner by
J.Burrows.
Even the Harriers defence was joining in with a halfway line strike from K.
Connolly which struck the cross bar.
Herne Bay Harriers were in total control of the game dominating possession.
With the game continuing in the same way A. Taylor added
to the score line with a superb solo run and finish to take the score to 4 - 0
at half time and only limiting Stars and Stripes to one shot on goal.
The second half got underway and Harriers were awarded a penalty when the
opposition handled in the area.
C.Sargeant stepped up to take it but it was well saved by the goalkeeper.
The Stars keeper was playing outstanding making save after
save until A. Taylor set up C. Sargeant , the fox in the box, with his first
goal of the game slotting home from close range.
Straight from the kick off K. Connolly intercepted a Stars and Stripes pass then
he attacked the left wing squared the ball to J. Mercer who dispatched a twenty
yard strike which nestled into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
The Harriers were in top gear and with the score already at 6-0, were rewarded
another penalty.
C.Sargeant stepped up as brave as a lion and slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner with sufficient ease.
As the game was coming to an end, the fox in the box
pounced again, C.Sargeant latched onto a through ball by man of the match
J.Mercer
for a simple tap in making the final score 8-0 and another great team
performance.
