Herne Bay Harriers Under 17’s produced an outstanding team performance to beat Margate FC 5 – 3 in the Parker Steel League Division 1 clash at the Cherry Orchards.
The Harriers took the lead with a well delivered cross from D. Marsden, who found S. Turner unmarked in the box and he coolly headed past the Margate keeper.
The lead was short lived as Margate scored two quick goals to take the initative.
However, the Harriers, never give in attitude was in abundance and they drew level with a tidy finish from L. Senft after the Margate keeper failed to hold onto B. Sargeant’s fierce shot.
Margate regained the lead for a short spell, but the Harriers drew level again as C. Monticolombi latched onto a through pass from R. Tait and he burst into the box to clinically fire the ball under the Margate keeper to send the teams in level at half time.
In the second half the Harrier dominated the game hitting the wood work on a number of occasions and seeing J. Bishops' close range shot tipped around the post by the keeper.
The pressure paid off and the Harriers went into the lead when D. Chamberlain fired the ball into the top corner of the goal giving the Margate keeper no chance.
The points were sealed when D. Marsden scored from close range, following an excellent move by Man of the Match B. Sargeant.
Credit for the victory must also go to the Harriers defence of J. Putnam, J. Gould, M. Epps, T. Watts and R. Blackwell, all produced an excellent display.
