Herne Bay Harriers 4 Ramsgate Youth 1

Herne Bay Harriers Under 17’s secured their fourth consecutive win by beating top of the table Ramsgate FC 4 - 1 at the Cherry Orchards.

In the first half the Harriers playing up hill were caught out by Ramsgate’s direct approach and conceded a goal midway through the half.

The Harriers could have drawn level, when an excellent free kick from the edge of the box by B. Sargeant beat the Ramsgate keeper, but hit the crossbar and S. Turner was unlucky not to score from the rebound.

The Harriers went in at half time one down.

In the second half the Harriers took advantage of the hill and exposed Ramsgate’s frail defence and deserved to draw level from a well worked corner routine, as J. Putnam headed in at the far post.

Minutes later came the goal of the game when L. Senft struck a wonder goal which the Ramsgate keeper could do nothing about, allowing the Harriers to take the lead.

The Harriers could have extended their lead when C. Monticolombi saw his shot go wide of the post and a long range shot from R. Tait dipped over the bar.

Passing and movement was the key to the next Harriers goal, which saw S. Turner being blatantly fouled in the box following good link up play from J. Bishop.

The penalty was dispatched with ease by B. Sargeant, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Ramsgate nearly pulled a goal back, but R. Blackwell in the Harriers goal reacted quickly and save at the strikers feet.

The forth goal was scored by Man of the Match S. Turner to finish off a superb team performance.

The Harriers look forward to Dover Wanderers in the challenge cup semi final.
