Herne Bay Harriers 7 Hawkinge Youth 7

This was a top of the table clash and it was important that we won this match to put pressure on Hawkinge who were 4 points clear.

We didn’t look ready for this game during the warm up and started poorly.

Within 3 minutes we were 3-0 down and all over the place. All the basics we had learned we seemed to forget, passing, marking, tracking back, tackling and defending our area.

We battled well, but were looking second best to a well organised team. When we played like we should do we created chances, and slowly got ourselves back into the game.

At 3-3, we should have taken control of the game. We managed to take the lead, but soon we allowed Hawkinge back into the match with further poor defending. Losing another goal before half time saw us 5-4 behind, a better position than we hoped for after our poor start.

Second half we were better, but still far from what we are capable of. We scored to draw level and had chances to put some distance between the teams, but failed to take the opportunities created.

The goals kept coming, them first and us equalising. The result means that we are reliant on other teams helping us out if we want to win the league.

Whilst it is clear we are strong going forward, we need to focus on our defending and working as a unit to ensure we concede fewer goals. Once we have resolved that issue then we will be a complete side and a threat to anyone.

Scorers: Billy Redford 3, Tom Barton 2, Zack Wakerly, Oliver Hudson
