Herne Bay Harriers 2 Margate Youth 4

The Under 13s played Margate on Wednesday evening in their penultimate game of the season.

The opening exchanges saw Margate put pressure on the Harriers team but the the defence were playing well with Luke Loxston playing very well at right back. Chas Dadswell as stand in goalkeeper was playing well and Calvin Sawards pace was important against a quick Margate attack.

But it was Harriers who took the lead when Ryan Lee hit a screamer from 25yards. If that wasn’t good enough Kieron Laughton hit an even better effort from 30yards which was a contender for our goal of the season.

We then put pressure on Margate and could have gone further ahead and a 3rd goal may have killed the game and at this stage we were playing as well we had for several weeks. But Margate who can still win the league got one back before the break and this was ultimately the turning point in the game.

The second half saw Margate take the initiative and with injuries to Charlie Hammond, Ryan Lee and Kieran Bleau the shape of the team was stretched and Margate got their equaliser and then a third. Harriers had a good goal disallowed before Margate got their fourth.  The final score line somewhat flattered them but they were a good, well organised team with some skilful individuals.

Harriers had some good performances on the night themselves,  more noticeable , Luke Loxston and Kieron Laughton.

The Harriers MOM went to Harry Darling whose touch and vision tonight were top class.  Well Done Harry.
