Herne Bay Harriers 4 Thanet Colts 4
It was top versus second today and a terrific game was anticipated.
Harriers started well and went 1-0 up when centre half Ben Waite finished in the box from a corner. Thanet however responded well and equalised before going into a 2-1 lead. Both teams were attacking and after a great dribble in midfield by Ryan Lee he set Tom Ireton free who lobbed the keeper only to see his effort come off the post but the quick thinking Andrew Orr had followed in and tapped in the equaliser. During this spell both teams could have scored but Allan Delow in the Harriers goal made 4 or 5 top quality saves which kept the U13s level at half time.
Harriers took the game to Thanet early on in the second half and after a series of corners from Kieron Laughton, which today were of the highest quality, he found Ben Waite, who scored again with a bullet of a header. The U13s sensed victory and when Tom Ireton was fouled in the box Kieran Bleau buried the penalty into the bottom left corner. The midfield were in a battle with Charlie Hammond in the thick of it but Thanet were still causing some problems and with 8 minutes left made it 4-3.
The last few minutes were nail biting and with the seconds ticking by it looked like we would get the 3pts to send us back to the top of the league. But disaster struck, and with what turned out to be the last kick of the game the ball landed just inside our box and a deflected shot gave Thanet their equaliser.
The chance of winning the league has now become harder but the U13s are still in contention for a top two finish in what is turning out to be a very competitive and close division.
The whole team were a credit to themselves today and they should be applauded. 3 league games left and 9pts will give us a great chance of silverware.
Harriers MOM was goalkeeper, Allan Delow, Great game Allan.
