Herne Bay Harriers 6 Tankerton 5
Following last weeks performance it was important that the team put right some of the basic errors, which would be difficult against a team that had won their opening two games.
Having only a bare eleven, every player had to be on their game and a fast start was imperative to set the pace of the match.
From the kick off the team imposed themselves and didn't let Tankerton settle.
Totally dominating the first 15 minutes, the difficulty was creating clear chances as Tankerton defended well.
Eventually the deadlock was broken and Harriers took a deserved 1 - 0 lead.
However straight from the kick off all the hard work was undone as we lost concentration and Tankerton replied immediately.
The team battled hard but despite this they were unable to take a commanding position.
Goals kept coming and at 3 - 3 it was anyone's game.
Then in a 10 minute spell in the second half 3 - 3 became 6 - 3, an advantage that was well deserved by the lads for the commitment they were showing.
Tankerton, for all their ability started to rely heavily on the long ball game to try and relieve the pressure.
As the lads were tiring, mistakes were being made and Tankerton took full advantage bringing the score back to 6 - 5.
However, we had several clear cut chances to put the game out of reach, but failed to finish them off with some poor finishing.
At the final whistle, the lads should be well pleased with the result, albeit that the score was a little closer than it should have been.
The performance from every player was outstanding and the football played was of a good standard, if the lads keep up this level of performance and commitment, and eradicate the errors, then this could be a very successful season.
Big thanks to Pete Tait
