Red Arrow Youth 3 Herne Bay Harriers 1
On paper this should have been a one sided game but Harriers always looked the stronger side with the majority of the possession who squandered several chances which included hitting the post and cross bar.
Our defence was solid for the majority of the game with Nick Roy getting back to his best. New signing Elijah is also improving every week and is proving to be a great asset this season. Matt and George were strong in the midfield and their determination won most of the loose balls to create more attacking options.
Red Arrow had few chances but did finish the first 2 goals very well after momentary lapses in concentration from the defence. Their third goal secured the win after a freak situation when the ball went over the bye line but was not called by the ref, the defence turned their backs to get ready for the goal kick but Red Arrow dragged the ball back on and kicked it into the net and claimed the goal.
Confusion then rained until the referee clarified what had happened. New signing Aaron Waters scored a consolation goal with a well taken half volley and along with Nick Hope pilled on the pressure in the last 15 minutes but could not find the back of the net again.
This was a game when the better team lost.
The levels of determination and enthusiasm despite being 3 goals down shows the kind of character needed to have another successful season.
Well done to the whole squad, I could not have asked for more. Keep it up.
