Herne Bay Harriers 'A' 3 Sturry Colts 4

 

Sturry came to the Harriers with an unbeaten record this season and came very close to losing it. Sturry started the game well and although the early exchanges were even it was Sturry who took advantage of some slack marking. Jamie Kemp in the Harriers goal got a hand to a low shot but was unable to keep it out.

It was two nil when the Sturry striker went through and scored. The Harriers were playing well and Luke Davis-Martine was passing the ball well in the midfield. Joe Evenden worked hard in the Harriers defence to keep Sturry at bay. Sturry scored again after a defensive error. Before half time the Harriers created an opening but Billy Surbey was off balance and could only put it wide. Half time 3 nil to Sturry.

The second half began with Callum Wyles making a great tackle to thwart a good attack by Sturry. The Harriers pushed forward and were hit on the counter by Sturry who scored again. The Harriers only got better and put Sturry firmly on the back foot. Morgan May made two good driving runs into the Sturry penalty area only to get tackled at the vital moment.

The Harriers won a corner which was only half cleared Ryan Kingsford picked the ball up on the edge of the box beat two defenders and passed the ball into the net. The Harriers started to believe and really took the game to Sturry. Cameron Hayward won everything that came his way. Billy Surbey was only stopped by a last ditch tackle. Ryan Kingsford then scored again shooting low from the edge of the box. Jack Masters in the Harriers defence was everywhere, which allowed the Harriers to keep attacking.

As the game drew to close Ryan Kingsford passed the ball through to Lewis Quinney who turned and finished. The Harriers then threw everything at Sturry and had two corners in the last minute but were unable to get there equaliser.

A great team performance, the Harriers never gave up and showed there fighting spirit right to the end.
