Tankerton 0 Herne Bay Harriers 'A' 3

The under 9s 'A' travelled to Tankerton in their opening game and made a good start to the season by coming away with all 3 points.

Both teams started nervously, however around 10 minutes into the game good footwork from Lewis Quinney created an opening for Ryan Kingsford to cross low into the box.  A deflection off a Tankerton defender took the ball into the net.

Jamie Kemp made some great saves for the Harriers to the keep the score 1 – 0 at half time.

After half time the Harriers started well gaining the initiative. After a poor clearance from the Tankerton keeper, Luke Davis-Martine made a defence splitting pass to Lewis Quinney, who took a touch and finished well into the corner of the net.

Good defensive work from Jack Masters and Joe Evenden allowed the Harriers to keep the pressure on. Billy Surbey hit the side netting from close range. Morgan May and Billy Surbey were unable to force the ball over the line in a goal mouth scramble.

From the resulting goal kick Cameron Hayward claimed the ball and made a driving run for the goal, with no challenges coming his way he coolly placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net from just inside the box.

At 3 – 0 Tankerton pushed forward and were able to pull one back.

As the game drew to a close Ryan Kingsford tipped the ball around a defender and set of on a run down the left, he beat one more defender and curled the ball into the top corner. Tankerton again pushed forward and a great defensive header from Callum Wyles brought the game to an end.
