Herne Bay Harriers 'A' 1 Dawes Hernhill Herons 3

Finally after 5 weeks the Harriers returned to the pitch for this top of the table clash.

Conditions were tough with the pitch being very heavy and the wind bitterly cold.

The Harriers started well pushing Dawes Hernhill back and creating a couple of half chances. However it was Dawes Hernhill who struck first after a poor clearance.

This did not stop the Harriers creating good chances first Luke Davis-Martine flashed a shot wide. Then Ryan Kingsford hit a shot from outside the box which was saved by the Dawes Hernhill keeper. Cameron Hayward glanced a header just wide after a neat move. In a goal mouth scramble Billy Surbey stabbed a shot just wide, the ball would just not go in.

As the half drew to a close Lewis Quinney turned his defender and scored with a cool side foot finish. One all at half time.

The second half began with Dawes Hernhill pushing forward but Jack Masters and Joe Evenden worked hard to keep them at bay.

Dawes Hernhill took the lead after the Harriers failed to clear despite Callum Wyles throwing his body in the way to stop them and they went further behind when a Dawes defender ran the length of the pitch unchallenged to score.

The Harriers reacted with attack after attack but Dawes Hernhill stood firm. The Harriers were then awarded a penalty but Ryan Kingsford was unable to convert. Jamie Kemp then made a fantastic one handed save to keep the score the same. The Harriers had more chances and a few goal line scrambles but just could not score.

A good performance and with a little bit of lady luck the result may have been different.
