Quarter Final

Dawes Hernhill Herons 4 Herne Bay Harriers 'A' 5

The Harriers travelled to Dawes for this much awaited cup quarter final. After the game had been postponed four times due to bad weather.

The Harriers started nervously and Dawes took the game to them putting them under pressure from the off. Jack Masters made a timely clearance and Callum Wyles made two good tackles to keep them at bay. Dawes did finally score after some poor defending from a corner. Jamie Kemp in the Harriers goal had the wind in his face making kicking conditions very difficult. Dawes scored again after a neat passing move. Ryan Kingsford ran then length of the pitch to make a last ditch sliding tackle to stop Dawes scoring. Dawes made it three nil after an awkward bounce deceived Jamie Kemp in the Harriers goal. The Harriers only created one chance and Lewis Quinney stabbed the ball wide. Three nil at half time.

The Harriers were down but not out, the second half began with Joe Evenden making a great pass to Luke Davies-Martine who slotted it passed the Dawes keeper. The Harriers seemed to have a new lease of life. Morgan May passed to Cameron Hayward who in turn passed to Luke Davies-Martine who scored again. The Harriers had there tails up and looked for the equaliser. The chance fell to Luke Davies-Martine who completed his hat-trick in fine style placing the ball into the net.

As the game drew to a close Dawes got there noses in front although it looked as though Ryan Kingsford had been fouled in the box just before the goal. This did not stop the Harriers they were not going to go down without a fight. In the dying moments a shot from Luke Davies-Martine was spilled by the Dawes keeper and Billy Surbey pounced to tap in with his left foot, and then got clattered by the Dawes keeper. With minutes left Dawes pushed forward the Harriers broke but the Dawes keeper claimed the ball, the game was heading for penalties. The Dawes keeper then decided to throw the ball out and Billy Surbey intercepted, with a cool head he slotted the ball passed the diving defender to put the Harriers through.

There was only time for Dawes to kick off before the referee blew the final whistle. The Harriers had showed a great team spirit coming from behind twice to go through to the semi final.
